Pottery on Dartmoor

Pottery

There are several places within very close proximity of Duchy House that offer pottery classes and courses for those interested in exploring their creativity through ceramics. We collaborate with a variety of local artists so whether you’re interested in creating functional pottery like mugs and bowls or sculptural pieces that push the boundaries of traditional ceramics, there is a choice of courses on offer.

  • Powdermills Pottery,  just outside of Princetown, is housed in granite buildings that were once part of a nineteenth century gunpowder factory and  is the home and workplace of potter, Joss Hibbs. Joss makes a range of tableware using clays and other materials found around the moor, which are fired in a wood-fired anagama kiln.
  • Watts Pots (aka Bethan Watts) offers one to one and small group lessons for aspiring potters from her workshop at Duchy Square in the centre of Princetown. Her work is designed to be functional, with clean lines and popping colours to make exciting, contemporary and vibrant pieces.

So roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty, and discover the joy of working with clay to make things that are uniquely yours!
