Kayaking & Canoeing on Dartmoor

Kayaking & Canoeing

Whitewater kayaking and canoeing on Dartmoor are exhilarating experiences that will test your skills and push your limits on two awesome rivers; The Tavy and what is arguably England’s best whitewater river, the Dart. Duchy House is perfectly situated – near to multiple access and egress points on both rivers – ensuring a convenient base for your next adventure.

The River Dart, flowing through the heart of Dartmoor, offers an awesome experience with its fast-flowing rapids and challenging sections; this river is a playground for those seeking an adrenaline rush. As you navigate downstream, you’ll be surrounded by breathtaking scenery, including ancient woodlands and granite tors. The three main points of access, including the legendary grade 3  ‘Loop’ – England’s most iconic stretch of white water –  from Newbridge to Holne Bridge, are a short drive from Duchy House.

For a slightly less intense but equally thrilling experience, the River Tavy is a fantastic choice. This picturesque river winds its way off the moor, with technical grade 4 rapids higher upstream through to grade 2-3 sections before reaching Tavistock (15 minutes from Duchy House), with easy parking and egress points.

The Dart and Tavy promise unforgettable, adrenaline-pumping experiences that will test your skills and leave you with a big smile on your face. So grab your gear and get ready for an unforgettable whitewater adventure on Dartmoor!
