Procurement Policy

Sustainable and Equitable Procurement Policy

POLICY STATEMENT – It is the policy of Duchy House to practice a continuous improvement approach to understanding and taking appropriate responsibility for any adverse environmental, social, and economic impacts of its purchasing. In doing so, we shall consider impacts on our environment and prioritize purchasing according to: alignment with our values, magnitude of impact, and compliance with any applicable regulations.

PURPOSE – This Policy is adopted in order to align our purchasing with our values and goals. In doing so, Duchy House seeks to harness the influence of its purchasing to support markets for, and increase accessibility to, more sustainable goods and services, with a focus on supporting our local economy where possible.

CORE STRATEGY – Sustainable and equitable purchasing shall be undertaken in conjunction with traditional purchasing considerations, such as budget, product/service, performance requirements, and availability. Our core strategy provides direction for decision making. Prior to making new purchases, we will consider: the need for the purchase; opportunities to extend the life of the existing item or material; and meeting the operational need through a different means (e.g. renting vs. purchasing).

  1. Wherever possible, we commit to buying locally. Therefore supporting the local economy, reducing food miles and ensuring quality.
  2. We will purchase products, or services that reduce waste and are produced fairly.
  3. Invest in energy and fuel-efficient products and services.
  4. Prioritise the purchase of products and services that show a high understanding of their impact on the environment, ethical provenance and to promote our sustainable commitment to the Green Tourism goals of people, places and planet.
